4 With the railways hiking freight rates by 19% to 33% on the eve of the
budget , companies are also not wasting time in passing on the burden to
customers. Cement manufacturers have hiked prices by at least Rs 12 and
as high as Rs 30 per bag (of 50kg), steel manufacturers are expected to
announce a price hike in couple of days, and fertilizer companies said a
price hike is "imminent" . (ET)
4 Companies in distress are rushing to restructure loans before the close of
the fiscal to ensure working capital flows next year, and help banks dress
up financial ratios when they present annual earnings in a year that will
set a record for restructured loans since they were introduced in 2001.

4 Indian companies garnered USD 2.7 billion from overseas markets in
January, much lower than USD 4.46 billion raised in December, according
to RBI. They raised over USD 2.7 billion through external commercial
borrowings (ECBs) and foreign currency convertible bonds (FCCBs), showed

4 A year after dissolving its joint venture with Honda,  Hero MotoCorp is
actively looking at the low-cost bike segment. This is expected to help the
company further consolidate its strong hold in the domestic mass biking
segment. Low-cost bikes are typically targeted at buyers who would like
to scale up from mopeds. So, the plan is to reduce prices to the Rs 20,000
-30,000 range (now it starts at Rs 34,500 for Hero's CD Dawn). (BL)
4 Tata Motors-owned Jaguar Land Rover will consider assembling Jaguar
luxury cars in India in the next 3-5 years. "We are looking at it, but
volumes in India are very small now. As we go forward, we will surely
consider this," Jaguar Global Brand Director, Mr Adrian Hallmark, told PTI.

4 World's largest drug maker Pfizer has called off a $350-million deal to sell
Indian biotech company Biocon's insulin products globally. In a joint
statement, Pfizer said it plans to develop its own insulin drug, while Biocon
said it will strike new alliances to market the drug globally. Biocon's stocks
plunged 6.31 per cent to Rs 250.8 following the announcement. (BL)
4 Coal India Ltd may revise its product prices during the April-June quarter
to offset wage hike, said the Coal Secretary, Mr Alok Perti. He was
speaking to reporters at CoalTrans India 2012. In April, Coal India is
expected to review the new Gross Calorific Value (GCV) based mechanism
after assessing its March quarter performance. (BL)
4 State Bank of India (SBI) has no plans to provide fresh loan to the cashstrapped Kingfisher Airlines, the Finance Minister, Mr Pranab Mukherjee,
said today. "SBI has informed that currently there is no such plan to
provide additional loan to Kingfisher Airlines," he said in the Rajya Sabha
to a question as to whether SBI had initiated a proposal to bail-out the
airline by sanctioning fresh loan of Rs 15 bn. (BL)
4 The Company Law Board (CLB) today asked real estate firm  Unitech  to
decide by March 19 if it wants to buy its JV partner Telenor's stake in
Uninor or sell its stake to the Norwegian telecom firm. "You [Unitech] are
given priority, whether you want to buy or sell [stake], you have to
decide," CLB Chairman Justice BR Deshmukh told Unitech. (BS)
4 Information technology services provider Wipro Technologies is
pursuing contracts worth around $3.5 billion, senior management of the
company told investors during a recent road show in Europe. The
Bangalore-based company is pursuing 15 $100-million deals and another
40 deals worth at least $50 million each. (ET)
