On Wednesday, Sensex and Nifty closed more than 3% up on the back of positive global cues and strong short covering. All sectoral indices closed in the green; major gainers were financials, consumer durables, oil&gas, metal and power stocks which gained around 3% each.
The Sensex closed at 15685, up 510 points while Nifty jumped up 149 points to end the day at 4693.
Major gainers were I C I C I Bank (7.66%), Tata Power Company (6.13%), Mahindra & Mahindra (6.20%), Bharti Airtel (6.10%), H D F C Bank (6.01%), and Maruti Suzuki India (4.34%).
Major loser was Sun Pharmaceutical Industries (0.23%)
The Bankex index was up by 4.92%. Major gainers were Bank of India(7.29%), Canara Bank (5.6%), H D F C Bank (5.12%), Bank Of Baroda (4.92%) and Federal Bank (2.38%).
The Consumer Durables index jumped up 4.10%. The major gainers were Titan Industries (8.23%), Whirlpool of India (3.24%), Rajesh Exports (2.32%), C.Mahendra Exports (0.39%) and T T K Prestige (0.36%).
The Oil & Gas index was up by 3.72%. Major gainers were Hindustan Petroleum Corporation (5.1%), Bharat Petroleum Corporation (3.63%), Cairn India (2.69%), G A I L (India) (2.4%) and Essar Oil (0.32%).
The TECk index gained 2.84%. Major gainers were Deccan Chronicle Holdings (6.04%), Bharti Airtel (5.78%), Reliance MediaWorks (3.09%), Dish TV India (1.87%) and Mphasis (0.7%).
Major gainers in the mid–cap space were A I A Engineering (4.07%), Aban Offshore (1.83%), Allcargo Logistics (0.77%), Alfa-Laval (India) (0.69%) and Alstom Projects India (0.42%).
Major gainers among small - caps were Aarti Industries (4.21%), Aanjaneya Lifecare (3.3%), A B G Infralogistics (1.35%), Trident (1.26%) and INEOS ABS (India) (0.08%).
Globally, Asian indices ended on a positive note while European indices are trading with similar sentiments
