Economy News
4 The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) is looking at the
possibility of generating 10,000 MW of power in the next 10 years from
surplus biomass (ET).
4 The prices of diesel cars in NCR are likely to increase sharply, with the city
government today announcing an additional tax of 25 per cent on the
existing tax rates for all diesel-propelled vehicles (BS).
4 Finance Minister today rolled back the 5% service tax on hospitals and
diagnostic services proposed in the budget (BS).

Corporate News
4 The sharp fall in the share price of DB Realty in the past couple of
months has forced promoters of the company to pledge an additional 8%
stake in the company to cover margin calls from the pledgee, ICICI Bank
(ET).
4 Ballarpur Industries is looking to raise $330 million, or Rs.14.8 bn, by
listing its overseas subsidiary Bilt Paper on the London Stock Exchange, to
fund expansion and reduce debt (ET).
4 Tata Power has announced a partnership with Australias Sunengy for
executing a solar power project in India. The partnership with Tata Power
will allow Sunengy to build a pilot plant for its low-cost, floating on water,
solar technology in India by the end of this year (ET).
4 Essar Energy sees a significant near-term hit on its product sharing
contracts with Indian state-run oil marketing companies, which are seen
lowering their fuel buy from the London-listed firm. (ET).
4 Mahindra Satyam on Tuesday moved the Andhra Pradesh High Court,
seeking a stay on the proceedings related to Rs.6.2 bn claim made by the
tax department (ET).
4 Monnet Ispat & Energy, flagship company of the Monnet Group, has
bought a 65-million tonne coal mine in Indonesia for $24 million (BS).
4 A consortium of Lanco Infratech and US-based Massey Energy Company,

4 Mundra Port and Special Economic Zone (MPSEZ) has won a bid to
develop a coal import terminal at Visakhapatnam (ET).
4 Jyothy Fabricare Services (JFSL), a subsidiary of Jyothy Labatories (JLL),
has acquired a Delhi-based laundry chain Diamond Fabcare for an
undisclosed amount (BS).

` Finance Minister rolled back the 5% service tax on hospitals and diagnostic services
proposed in the Budget. He also halved the Custom duty on completely knocked
down (CKD) auto-mobile units to 30% from 60% proposed in the Budget. He
warned that the benefits of the proposed GST and the Direct Taxes Code would be
diluted if exemptions continued to be sought. (BSTD)    
` Tata Steel (TATA IN) has initiated talks with the government of British Columbia, a
Canadian province, to acquire coking coal mines. (BSTD)  
` The Munjal family - promoted Hero group has raised its stake in Hero Honda (HH IN)
to 52.2% by buying 26% stake from Honda Motor co. through a market transaction.
