Should Infosys not give guidance for FY2013E? The number of S&P 500 companies
that offered guidance in their 4QCY11 earnings report was the lowest since 3QCY09 (the
height of GFC). Assessing IT spend/budget ratio and timing of budget release for
discretionary projects (two key forecasting inputs for IT companies) in what appears to be
an increasingly uncertain environment for the IT companies’ clients to forecast is a clear
challenge, in our view. The question ‘should Infosys guide in such an environment?’ is a
valid one, in our view. No guidance would be better than an abnormally wide range.
