Sales Traders Commentary
On Monday, the first trading session of the year turned out to be dull. The market closed with moderate gains amid low volumes due to lack of positive global and domestic cues. The Sensex and Nifty gained 0.30% each, supported by consumer durables, oil&gas, IT, metal and financials stocks; FMCG, auto, power and realty stocks were down.
The Sensex closed at 15517, up 63 points. The Nifty jumped 13 points to end the day at 4636.
Major gainers were Coal India (3.61%), Tata Motors (3.03%), Reliance Industries (2.03%), Maruti Suzuki India (1.82%), I C I C I Bank (1.73%), and Tata Steel (1.58%).
Major losers were Bajaj Auto (7.40%), Hero Honda Motors (3.50%), Hindalco Industries (3.02%), D L F (2.13%), NTPC (1.53%), and I T C (1.44%).
The Consumer Durables index was up 1.35%. Major gainers were C.Mahendra Exports (3.52%), Gitanjali Gems (3.46%), Titan Industries (2.58%), Rajesh Exports (0.72%) and Bajaj Electricals (0.13%).
The Oil & Gas index jumped 1.31%. Major gainers were G A I L (India) (0.76%), Hindustan Petroleum Corporation (0.7%), Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (0.62%), Cairn India (0.45%) and Bharat Petroleum Corporation (0.15%).
The IT index was up 1.23%. Major gainers were Tata Consultancy Services (1.46%), Infosys (1.44%), H C L Technologies (1.4%), Mphasis (0.63%) and Patni Computer Systems (0.38%).
The FMCG index was down 1.31%. Major losers were Godrej Consumer Products (3.65%), Nestle India (2.7%), I T C (1.44%), Hindustan Unilever (1.32%) and Colgate-Palmolive (India) (0.72%).
Major losers in the mid–cap space were Aban Offshore (2.53%), A I A Engineering (1.42%), Alfa-Laval (India) (0.48%), CORE Education and Technologies (0.33%) and A B G Shipyard (0.06%).

Major gainers among small caps were Provogue (India) (8.44%), A B G Infralogistics (3.37%), Trident (0.81%), Aarti Industries (0.21%) and INEOS ABS (India) (0.01%).
Globally, Asian indices ended on a positive note while European indices are trading in the green.
