Sales Traders Commentary
On Friday, Indian equity market continued to fall for the fourth consecutive session on the last trading day of 2011 on the back of profit booking. Market was unable to take advantage of the early morning gains and slipped into red during the afternoon session. Both Sensex and Nifty dipped 0.50% each with the latter closing below 4650 level. Profit booking was seen in oil&gas, realty, financials, metal, auto and FMCG stocks.
The Sensex closed at 15454, down 89 points. Nifty slipped 21 points to end the day at 4624.
Major gainers were Infosys Technologies (0.78%), Coal India (0.72%), Bharat Heavy Electricals (0.67%), Bharti Airtel (0.29%), Wipro (0.16%), and Hero MotoCorp (0.06%).
Major losers were Reliance Industries (2.81%), Jindal Steel & Power (2.07%), D L F (2.01%), Tata Steel (2.00%), Tata Power Company (1.52%), and Jaiprakash Associates (1.50%)
The PSU index was up by 0.98%. Major gainers were Canara Bank (1.55%), Bharat Heavy Electricals (0.67%), Andhra Bank (0.38%), Bank Of Maharashtra (0.13%) and Bharat Petroleum Corporation (0.1%).
The Oil & Gas index slipped 1.47%. Major losers were Reliance Industries (2.81%), Petronet LNG (2.35%) and Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (0.58%).
The Realty index was down by 1.1%. Major losers were Anant Raj Industries (2.93%), D L F (2.01%), Sunteck Realty (1.91%), Godrej Properties (1.55%) and Housing Development and Infrastructure (1.11%).
The Bankex index was down by 0.73%. Major losers were Bank Of Baroda (3.16%), Indusind Bank (2.96%), Bank Of India (1.34%), H D F C Bank (0.84%) and I C I C I Bank (0.21%)
Major gainers in the mid – cap space were Allcargo Logistics (6.61%), CORE Education and Technologies (3.22%), Alstom Projects India (0.87%), A B G Shipyard (0.4%) and A I A Engineering (0.31%).
Major gainers among small - caps were Provogue (India) (3.17%), Action Construction Equipment (0.35%), Ador Welding (0.27%), Ahmednagar Forgings (0.23%) and Trident (0.1%).
Globally, Asian indices ended on a positive note while European indices are trading in the green.
