Indian equity ended the volatile session with significant losses on Thursday. Both Sensex and Nifty dipped 1.2% each and the latter Nifty ended below the 4650 level on expiry day as the last one hour of trade was very bad for the market - as there was a sharp selling in capital goods, oil&gas, realty, power consumer durables and financial stocks.
The Sensex closed at 15543, down 183 points. Nifty slipped 59 points to end the day at 4646.
Major gainers were Jindal Steel & Power (1.70%), State Bank Of India (1.08%), Sterlite Industries (India) (0.72%), Hindalco Industries (0.51%), Wipro (0.20%), and Hindustan Unilever (0.19%)
Major losers were Bharat Heavy Electricals (3.59%), Reliance Industries (3.47%), Tata Power Company (3.38%), Maruti Suzuki India (3.38%), D L F (3.01%), and Larsen & Toubro (2.84%)
The Metal index jumped up by 0.23%. Major gainers were National Aluminium Company (3.42%), JSW Steel (2.11%), Jindal Steel & Power (1.7%), Hindalco Industries (0.51%) and Sesa Goa (0.09%).
The Oil & Gas index was down by 2.62%. Major losers were Bharat Petroleum Corporation (4.28%), G A I L (India) (3.51%), Cairn India (2.29%), Hindustan Petroleum Corporation (2.25%) and Indian Oil Corporation (0.2%).
The Capital Goods index slipped 2.39%. Major losers were Bharat Heavy Electricals (3.59%), BEML (3.28%), A B B (1.44%), Havell`S India (0.52%) and Bharat Electronics (0.36%).
The Realty index was down 1.66%. Major losers were Housing Development and Infrastructure (5.19%), Anant Raj Industries (3.08%), D L F (3.01%), D B Realty (1.46%) and Godrej Properties (0.1%).
Major losers in the mid – cap space were Anant Raj Industries (3.08%), Andhra Bank (2.22%), Amtek Auto (2.11%), CORE Education and Technologies (0.95%) and A I A Engineering (0.7%).
Major losers among small - caps were Provogue (India) (3.3%), Trident (1.31%), Adhunik Metaliks (1.05%), Action Construction Equipment (0.88%) and INEOS ABS (India) (0.17%).
Globally, Asian indices ended on a negative note while European indices are trading in the green.
