On Monday, first day of the last week of 2011, Indian equity market staged a good performance, shooting up by over 200 points amid low volumes. Both Sensex and Nifty gained 1.40% each on global cues. Telecom, technology, financials, FMCG, realty, metal and capital goods were major gainers that led the rally. The Sensex closed at 15970, up 233 points while Nifty jumped up 65 points to end the day at 4779. Major gainers were Hero MotoCorp (4.75%), Bharti Airtel (4.31%), Tata Steel (3.01%), Infosys Technologies (2.91%), Jaiprakash Associates (2.89%), and Tata Consultancy Services (2.73%). Major losers were Cipla (0.64%), Maruti Suzuki India (0.57%), Hindalco Industries (0.53%), and Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (0.19%) in the Sensex.
The TECk index gained 2.61%. Major gainers were Bharti Airtel (4.31%), Idea Cellular (4.06%), Dish TV India (2.21%), Reliance MediaWorks (1.12%) and Mphasis (0.6%).
The IT index was up 2.39%. Major gainers were Infosys (2.91%), Oracle Financial Services Software (2.5%), Tech Mahindra (0.83%), CORE Education and Technologies (0.79%) and Mphasis (0.6%). The Realty index was up 1.59%. Major gainers were Anant Raj Industries (7.22%), Peninsula Land (2.35%), Housing Development and Infrastructure (2.27%), Parsvnath Developers (1.17%) and D L F (1.06%). The HC index was down 0.04%. Major losers were Fortis Healthcare (India) (1.06%), Dr Reddy`S Laboratories (0.92%), Cipla (0.64%), Glaxo SmithKline Pharmaceuticals (0.54%) and Divis Laboratories (0.11%).
The major gainers in the mid – cap space were Alok Industries (3.13%), A2Z Maintenance & Engineering Services (0.98%), Aban Offshore (0.94%), CORE Education and Technologies (0.79%) and A I A Engineering (0.29%). Major gainers among small - caps were Ador Welding (3.37%), Provogue (India) (2.03%), Reliance MediaWorks (1.12%), Advanta India (0.92%) and Aarti Industries (0.52%). Globally, Asian indices ended on a positive note while European indices are trading higher.
