􀂄 Federal Reserve policy makers said U.S. growth is becoming more durable and higher
energy prices will have a temporary effect on inflation as they affirmed plans to buy
USD600bn of Treasuries through June.
􀂄 U.S. stocks escaped the brunt of a global selloff that sent Tokyo shares to the worst twoday
drop since 1987, paring losses as Japanese officials made progress stabilizing
damaged nuclear reactors and the Federal Reserve
Sector & Corporate News
􀂄 Aviation: The civil aviation ministry to take up the proposed increase in service tax by
INR50 in the case of domestic air travel and INR250 on international journeys, with the
union finance ministry.
􀂄 Cairn: The Securities & Exchange Board of India has yet not cleared the Vedanta
Group's open offer for Cairn India, a mandatory requirement under its rules.
􀂄 SAIL: Is expected to hit the market for the follow on public offer of ~INR70-80bn in the
first quarter of the next fiscal.
􀂄 M&M: Mahindra & Mahindra completes Ssangyong buyout which will boost product
development and brand spends at Ssangyong Motor and will set up a joint panel to
ensure synergies with the South Korean sport utility vehicle maker.
􀂄 TCS: Offered to move its Indian employees back home as well as shifting its local
Japanese workers to other safer locations. TCS has over 200 people in Japan, including
a number of Indians working on various projects.
􀂄 Lupin: Its Japanese subsidiary will donate EURO10m to the Japanese Red Cross in the
wake of the recent earthquake and tsunami that hit the country.
􀂄 Mahindra Satyam: Has bagged a multi-million dollar, multi-year contract from Aspire
Zone, Qatar, one of the leading sports institutes in the world.


􀂄 Subex: Has been chosen for a USD12m licence contract by a mobile group operating
in Europe, West Asia and Africa to implement its ROC platform for fraud management
and revenue assurance. The project would be executed over the next 16 to 18 months
and the scope of the contract is expected to be expanded, resulting in the contract
value potentially going up to USD20m.
􀂄 Spice Jet: Needs to raise prices by INR500 to INR600 to meet increase in expenses
due to higher fuel cost.
􀂄 Chennai Petro: Plans to shut a 56,000-bpd crude unit for 21 days in May-June and
a 74,000-bpd crude unit for 23 days in August-September for maintenance.
􀂄 Fortis Healthcare (India) Limited: Has partnered with California-based TotipotentRX
Cell Therapy Pvt. Ltd. to set up centres of excellence offering cellular therapies and
stem cell clinical trials.
