Economy News
4 Japan raced to avert a catastrophe after fire broke out on Wednesday at
a nuclear plant that has sent low levels of radiation wafting into Tokyo,
prompting some people to flee the capital and triggering growing
international alarm at the escalating crisis. (ET)
4 Advance tax payments made by 100 firms based in the country’s financial
capital rose by one-fourth for the three months ending March, belying
fears of a tight quarter with shrinking margins for Indian companies.

roll out the Goods and Services Tax (GST), hoping that a debate in

Corporate News
4 Tata Consultancy Services (TCS)  and Satyam have announced a large,
multiyear, multimillion dollar deal. TCS said it has bagged a IT
infrastructure deal from Dutch firm Royal Haskoning. The scope of the
project covers end-to-end IT infrastructure services, which will be
provided from TCS' global delivery centres. Mahindra Satyam bagged a
deal from Aspire Zone, Qatar, one of the leading sports institutes in the
world. As part of the contract, Mahindra Satyam will provide onsite and
offshore support to Aspire on various application development and
infrastructure services projects. (ET)
4 ITC Ltd has bought all the shares allotted to it in the rights offer by EIH
Ltd, the company that runs hotels under the Oberoi and Trident brands,
undeterred by its promoters’ stake sale to Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL)
last year to fend off a potential takeover bid. (Mint)
4 Reliance Industries Ltd. will shut a coker unit at its Jamnagar facility in
the last week of April for about 15 days, two people will knowledge of
the matter said. The unit will be closed for planned maintenance. (Mint)
4 Mahindra & Mahindra has completed the process of acquiring  a
majority stake in the South Korean auto company SsangYong Motor
Company (SYMC), it stated today. M&M, leader in the sports utility vehicle
(SUV) segment in India, said SYMC is no longer in court receivership. M&M
will hold 70 per cent in the SUV-making company. (BS)
4 State-owned exploration major  Oil and Natural Gas Corporation
(ONGC) has established a significant gas discovery in the northeastern
state of Tripura, officials said here Tuesday. (ET)

SMS termination charges. The move follows a recent Telecom Regulatory Authority of
