So what does '4G' mean in India? 91 22 6777 3714
􀂃 Two weeks after Bharti's launch of 4G network in Bangalore, we conducted on-the-ground trials to test the download
speeds.
􀂃 We got average download speed of 17Mbps, with a peak speed of 25Mbps in one location. While these speeds are below
the promised peak speeds on the company website, they are significantly ahead of speeds delivered by any other retail
broadband service in India.
􀂃 The above speeds were for downloads from India-based servers, while in an outdoor stationary environment. We found
speeds drop materially for indoor access, while moving on the street or while downloading from international servers. These
are more representative of actual usage of the product, in our view.
􀂃 Combined with our last week's note (on TD-LTE handsets being close to reality), we believe that the TD-LTE ecosystem is
evolving rapidly. We would keep an eye on the service launch by RIL. In the meanwhile, our cautious view on the telecom
sector remains, based on risks from competition/regulations/market maturity.
