Equity Market Overview

June - July 2012

Indian markets remained under selling pressure on the back of weak economic data points and negative global cues

Indian markets remained under selling pressure on back of concerns related to GAAR, weak IIP, Eurozone impact, rising subsidy burden, persistent inflation and weakening rupee
In the recent past-3 months period, only FMCG and Healthcare have done well
BSE Small Cap & Mid Cap Index have out performed the Nifty in the last six months
IIP growth for Apr'12 was barely 0.1% as compared to the revised (-)3.2% for Mar'12

Global markets sold off in May

May tends to be a weak month for equities. This was proved true one more time as global markets sold off in May 2012
For the month, the Dow Jones, FTSE and Hang Seng lost 6.7%, 8.4% and 11.7% respectively
Selling pressure in the US markets was led by worries related to exit of Greece from Eurozone and diminished hopes of QE3 from Fed
