On Wednesday, Indian equity benchmarks ended on a flat note amid choppy sessions. Both Sensex and Nifty gained marginally by 0.10% with the latter managing to hold on to 4850 levels. Buying was seen in realty, metal, financials, oil&gas and capital goods while the IT and FMCG stocks faced selling pressures.
Sensex closed at 16175, up 10 points. The Nifty jumped up 11 points to end the day at 4861.
Major gainers were Hindalco Industries (5.69%), Sterlite Industries (India) (4.85%), D L F (3.41%), Jaiprakash Associates (3.18%), Tata Steel (2.88%), and Hero Honda Motors (1.97%).
Major losers were Tata Consultancy Services (2.54%), Jindal Steel & Power (2.16%), Mahindra & Mahindra (1.60%), Bharti Airtel (1.54%), Cipla (1.53%), and Infosys Technologies (1.29%)
The Realty index was by 4.64%. Major gainers were Sunteck Realty (13.49%), Housing Development and Infrastructure (13.19%), Anant Raj Industries (6.17%), D L F (3.41%) and Godrej Properties (1.04%).
The Metal index was up by 2.26%. Major gainers were Hindalco Industries (5.69%), JSW Steel (1.51%), Hindustan Zinc (0.8%), Coal India (0.77%) and Bhushan Steel (0.66%).
The Bankex index gained 1.12%. Major gainers were Indusind Bank (4.5%), Bank Of Baroda (0.82%), IDBI Bank (0.75%), I C I C I Bank (0.66%) and H D F C Bank (0.61%).
The IT index was, however, down by 1.42%. Major losers were Tata Consultancy Services (2.54%), H C L Technologies (1.41%), Infosys (1.29%), Wipro (0.47%) and Patni Computer Systems (0.47%).
Major gainers in the mid – cap space were A2Z Maintenance & Engineering Services (19.99%), Alstom Projects India (6.77%), A I A Engineering (1.89%), Aban Offshore (0.55%) and CORE Education and Technologies (0.21%).
Major gainers among small - caps were Provogue (India) (7.72%), Trident (2.42%), Aanjaneya Lifecare (2.29%), Aarti Industries (0.2%) and A B G Infralogistics (0.19%).
Globally, Asian indices ended on a higher note while European indices were trading on a mixed note
