Indian equity markets put up a remarkable performance on Tuesday, led by broadbased buying and positive global cues. Both Sensex and Nifty gained more than 2.2% with the Sensex closing above 16000 levels. Buying was seen across sectors; major gainers were realty, capital goods, financials, metal, auto and oil&gas stocks which gained more than 2% each.
Sensex closed at 16165, up 350 points. The Nifty jumped up 107 points to end the day at 4850.
Major gainers were Mahindra & Mahindra (5.63%), Hindalco Industries (4.28%), Larsen & Toubro (4.24%), Jindal Steel & Power (4.12%), Reliance Industries (3.99%), and State Bank of India (3.93%). Major losers were Tata Consultancy Services (0.41%) and Gail India (0.16%)
The Realty index jumped up 4.20%. Major gainers were Anant Raj Industries (20%), D B Realty (12.13%), Housing Development and Infrastructure (6.11%), D L F (3.82%) and Godrej Properties (1.42%).
The Capital Goods index gained 3.56%. Major gainers were Alstom Projects India (3.77%), A B B (3.3%), BGR Energy Systems (3.22%), BEML (1.64%) and Bharat Electronics (0.63%).
The Bankex index was up by 3.17%. Major gainers were Canara Bank(4.97%), Bank Of India (3.25%), Bank Of Baroda (2.66%), Federal Bank (1.51%) and H D F C Bank (1%).
The Metal index was up by 2.96%. Major gainers were Hindalco Industries (4.28%), Jindal Steel & Power (4.12%), Hindustan Zinc (1.34%), Bhushan Steel (1.25%) and Coal India (0.97%).
Major gainers in the mid –cap space were Anant Raj Industries (20%),D B Realty (12.13%), Amtek Auto (9.08%), Bharat Forge (5.31%), Aban Offshore (4.19%), Alstom Projects (3.77%) and Godrej Industries (3.70%)
Major gainers among small – caps were Aptech (20%), 3i Infotech (14.55%), Dishman Pharma (13.42%), Aarti Industries (4.20%), Esab India (3.77%) and Alembic Pharma (2.30%),
Globally, Asian indices ended on a higher note while European indices were also trading in the green.
