On Tuesday, the market faced pressure after an all party meeting failed to reach consensus on the FDI issue, further pressurising reforms. Sensex and Nifty dipped 1% each despite positive European markets. Selling was seen in realty, financials, oil&gas, consumer durables, metal & PSU stocks.
The Sensex closed at 16008, down 159 points, while the Nifty slipped 46 points to end the day at 4805.
Major gainers were Bajaj Auto (2.06%), Mahindra & Mahindra (1.60%), Hindustan Unilever (1.25%), Hero Honda Motors (1.24%), Cipla (1.14%), and I T C (0.61%).
Major losers were Bharti Airtel (3.80%), Jindal Steel & Power (3.34%), D L F (3.18%), Sterlite Industries (India) (2.43%), Reliance Industries (2.30%), and Tata Power Company (2.23%).
The FMCG index jumped 0.45%. Major gainers were Godrej Consumer Products (1.78%), Hindustan Unilever (1.25%), I T C (0.61%), Colgate-Palmolive (India) (0.57%) and United Breweries (0.29%).
The Realty index was down 2.32%. Major losers were Housing Development and Infrastructure (4.66%), Indiabulls Real Estate (3.31%), D L F (3.18%), Anant Raj Industries (1.73%) and Sunteck Realty (1.21%).
The Bankex slipped 1.91%. Major losers were Canara Bank (4.33%), Bank of Baroda (3.57%), Bank of India (2.27%), Federal Bank (1.51%) and H D F C Bank (1.45%).
The Oil & Gas index was down 1.84%. Major losers were Essar Oil (4.05%), Hindustan Petroleum Corporation (4.02%), Bharat Petroleum Corporation (1.13%), Cairn India (0.83%) and G A I L (India) (0.67%).
Major losers in the mid–cap space were Alstom Projects India (5.34%), A I A Engineering (2.97%), CORE Education and Technologies (2.58%), Alfa-Laval (India) (0.77%) and Aban Offshore (0.56%).
Major losers among small caps were Provogue (India) (3.46%), Advanta India (2.42%), Adhunik Metaliks (2.16%), Reliance MediaWorks (1.05%) and INEOS ABS (India) (0.47%).

Globally, Asian indices ended on a positive note while European indices were trading on similar sentiments.
