Sales Traders Commentary

On Monday, the Indian equity market closed higher on back of strong global sentiments and short covering. Both Sensex and Nifty gained 3% each and the latter closed above 4850. Buying was seen across sectors; major gainers were metal, oil&gas, fianacials, PSU, realty and power stocks, which gained around 3% each.

The Sensex closed at 16167, up 471 points, while the Nifty jumped 141 points to end the day at 4851.

Major gainers were Hindalco Industries (9.20%), Tata Motors (5.36%), Jaiprakash Associates (5.27%), Housing Development Finance Corporation (5.23%), State Bank of India (5.10%), and Sterlite Industries (India) (4.85%).

Major losers were Bajaj Auto (1.69%) and Hero Honda Motors (0.69%).

The Metal index jumped 4.87%. Major gainers were Hindalco Industries (9.2%), Coal India (4.36%), Jindal Steel & Power (4.26%), Hindustan Zinc (3.64%) and Bhushan Steel (2.27%).

The Oil & Gas index gained 3.45%. Major gainers were Bharat Petroleum Corporation (3.88%), Essar Oil (3.62%), Hindustan Petroleum Corporation (2.63%), Cairn India (2.57%) and G A I L (India) (1.28%).

The Bankex was up 3.43%. Major gainers were Canara Bank (4.54%), Federal Bank (3.21%), Bank of Baroda (2.26%), H D F C Bank (2.16%) and Bank of India (1.64%).

The PSU index was up 3.06%. Major gainers were Allahabad Bank (5.32%), Andhra Bank (2.78%), Bank of Baroda (2.26%), Bank of India (1.64%) and Bank of Maharashtra (0.99%).

Major gainers in the mid–cap space were A I A Engineering (3.82%), Aban Offshore (2.73%), A2Z Maintenance & Engineering Services (1.98%), A B G Shipyard (1.57%) and Alstom Projects India (0.65%).
Major gainers among small caps were Adhunik Metaliks (3.67%), A B G Infralogistics (3.24%), Reliance MediaWorks (2.95%), Trident (0.77%) and Aarti Industries (0.42%).

Globally, Asian indices ended on a positive note while European indices were trading on similar sentiments.
