Euro zone chalks out EUR1,000bn plan to tackle EU crisis
The European leaders reached an agreement on late Wednesday night at the EU
summit held in Brussels towards resolving the European debt crisis. The plan of
action includes expansion of ESFS bailout fund to EUR1,000bn from EUR440bn.
The Euro zone policy makers also agreed on a EUR106bn towards recapitalization
of European banks. The deal announced during the summit also includes an
agreement in which private investors in Greek government debt will take a 50%
write down on the value of their holdings as part of a wide-ranging package of
measures designed to stem the euro-zone debt crisis. The deal is expected to
reduce Greece's debt to 120% of its GDP in 2020 which is currently 180%.
