Southwest Monsoon looses momentum after a good start
The advancement of the southwest monsoon seems to be slowing as the meteorological data reveal. Though cumulative rainfall till the week ended June 15, 2011 still stood at 3.4% above LPA, the rainfall for the week ended June 15, 2010 stood at 8.9% below normal. The number of divisions experiencing excess/normal rainfall remains unchanged at 25 from last week. The number of regions experiencing scanty rainfall stood at 11 and has not changed since the previous week.
Parts of east and west India cumulatively deficient
Cumulative Rainfall in most of the regions in east India including Assam & Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh. Gangetic West Bengal, Jharkhand, is below their LPA by more than ~25%. Even in certain areas in west India like West Rajasthan and Gujarat Region cumulative rainfall is below their LPA by more than 65%.
Forecast good rainfall in Eastern and central region
As the advancement of the monsoon continues, parts of central and east India are likely to receive a good amount of rainfall.
