Dealer’s Diary
During the day, fears of further monetary tightening by the RBI to tame high
inflation, firm global crude oil prices and political uncertainty combined to pull
the markets lower in volatile trade. Cooling crude oil prices also aided intraday
recovery from an initial slide caused by weakness in Asian markets triggered by
worsening nuclear crisis in Japan. The market lost ground again as oil prices
bounced back. Weakness continued in afternoon trade. The market extended
losses in mid-afternoon trade as crude oil prices rose. The market recovered in
late trade after touching a fresh intraday low. The Sensex and Nifty closed with
losses of 1.1% and 1.2%, respectively. The mid-cap and small-cap indices
closed with losses of 0.3% and 0.4%, respectively. Among the front liners,
RCOM, BHEL, Reliance Infra, Cipla and Jaiprakash Associates closed with gains
of 1–4%, while Maruti Suzuki, HDFC, Hindalco, DLF and Infosys lost 2–4%.
Among mid caps, Mahindra Lifespace, Prestige Estates, BOC India, Edelweiss
Capital and MVL gained 4–9%, while Jyothy Labs, Network18 Media, KGN
Inds, Ballarpur Inds and Sunteck Realty lost 3–12%.
Markets Today
The trend deciding level for the day is 18,203/5,431 levels. If NIFTY trades

further rally up to 18,301–18,453/5,426–5,405 levels. However, if NIFTY
trades below 18,203/5,431 levels for the first half-an-hour of trade then it may
correct up to 18,051–17,952/5,451-5,456 levels.
