Auto Sales - December 2010
Maruti Suzuki India (Maruti)
For December 2010, Maruti registered 17% yoy growth in volumes to 99,225 units
(84,804) led by the 26% yoy growth in domestic volumes to 89,469 units (71,000). On the
exports front, volumes continued to witness negative growth and declined 29.3% yoy
during the month. Maruti maintained its growth momentum in the A2, A3 and C segments,
posting 23.5%, 19.4% and 67.5% yoy growth respectively, in December 2010. Overall
volume growth during the month was restricted on account of the six-day plant shut down
for maintenance purposes.
Ashok Leyland (ALL)
ALL reported better-than-expected sales growth of 23.9% yoy to 7,568 units (6,110) during
December 2010. On a sequential basis, volumes increased 47.3%. While the M&HCV
passenger vehicles segment reported a muted 5.9% yoy growth, the M&HCV goods
vehicles segment registered strong growth of 37.4% yoy. The domestic M&HCV goods
vehicle segment sales rebounded in December 2010 and recorded a substantial 104.1%
mom growth. Exports, which have been recovering since the last few months, posted a
robust 100.5% yoy growth during the month, with strong demand from Sri Lanka,
Bangladesh and Saudi Arabia.
