On Monday, Indian equity markets closed marginally higher after an extremely volatile session. Both Sensex and Nifty were marginal gainers by 0.40% each. Nifty holds 5300 levels, supported by consumer durables, power, capital goods, realty, financials and IT stocks.
The Sensex closed at 17478, up 74 points while Nifty jumped 23 points to end the day at 5318.
Major gainers were D L F (2.88%), NTPC (2.74%), Tata Consultancy Services (2.01%), Larsen & Toubro (1.96%), Mahindra & Mahindra (1.66%), and State Bank Of India (1.64%).
Major losers were Bajaj Auto (1.45%), Hindalco Industries (1.39%), Sterlite Industries (India) (1.26%), Reliance Industries (1.00%), Hindustan Unilever (0.98%), and Maruti Suzuki India (0.91%).
The Consumer Durables index jumped 3.89%. Major gainers were C.Mahendra Exports (17.06%), Titan Industries (6.17%), Whirlpool Of India (3.04%), Gitanjali Gems (1.58%), and Bajaj Electricals (1.36%).
The Power index gained 1.89%. Major gainers were Crompton Greaves (4.56%), Reliance Infrastructure (4.4%), Bharat Heavy Electricals (1.3%), Adani Power (0.95%), and A B B (0.29%).
The Capital Goods index was up 1.74%. Major gainers were Crompton Greaves (4.56%), Alstom Projects India (1.94%), Bharat Heavy Electricals (1.3%), A I A Engineering (0.97%), and A B B (0.29%).
The Oil & Gas index slipped 0.28%. Major losers were Oil India (3.8%), Hindustan Petroleum Corporation (1.86%), Bharat Petroleum Corporation (1.39%), Reliance Industries (1%), and Indian Oil Corporation (0.55%).
Major gainers in the mid–cap space were Alok Industries (5.61%), Alstom Projects India (1.94%), A B G Shipyard (1.33%), Aban Offshore (0.99%), and A I A Engineering (0.97%).
Major gainers among small caps were A B G Infralogistics (6.15%), A2Z Maintenance & Engineering Services (3.28%), Aanjaneya Lifecare (2.36%), Trident (1.3%), and Aarti Industries (0.41%).
Globally, Asian indices ended on a mixed note, while European indices were trading in the red.
