 Support for Maruti's dissenting employees grows as Suzuki’s
employee’s strike: As per media reports(Economic Times), unrest in the
Manesar area has risen with support coming in for Maruti's employee’s
from its Japanese parent's Suzuki’s local subsidiaries including Suzuki
Powertrain, Suzuki Castings and Suzuki Motorcycles. The unrest at Maruti
has been continuing over the past few months and production has suffered
on this count.
 Suzuki India’s 6,000 workers from its three subsidiaries (as highlighted
above) went on strike today supporting the demands of Maruti employees.
Media reports that Suzuki Powertrain India employs more than 2,000
workers at its Manesar plant, where it manufactures diesel engines and
transmissions and supplies to Maruti. Suzuki Castings has nearly 700
workers. Suzuki Motorcycles India has 1,400 workers at its plant near
Manesar and it rolls out about 1,200 motorcycles and scooters a day.
 Yesterday, another vendor in the area – Munjal Showa had witnessed a flash
strike (which got resolved though).
 Maruti maintains its stance: The management has not yet resolved its
issues with the employee’s who have refused to sign the good conduct bond.
With the help from freshly recruited workers though, production for the
‘Swift’ from the Manesar plant has reached 500 cars a day. August sales
were impacted by the strike: Domestic sales at Maruti declined sharply
(down -17% yoy) in August partly impacted by strike as the OEM has only
been able to produce between 250 - 600 vehicles a day (vs a normal of 1,200
units a day) towards the end of the month.
