Dealer’s Diary
The market opened on a weak note as renewed fears over Europe's sovereign
debt crisis sent Asian shares tumbling. The market trimmed losses in morning
trade after hitting fresh intraday lows. The market tumbled in mid-morning
trade after the latest data showed dismal 3.3% growth in industrial production
in July 2011. The data hit the market at about 11:00 IST. The market extended
losses in early afternoon trade as European shares opened on a weak note on
fears of Greek default. The market trimmed losses in mid-afternoon trade. The
market weakened once again in late trade. The Sensex and Nifty closed with
losses of 2.2% each. The mid-cap and small-cap indices ended with losses of
1.8% and 1.9%, respectively. Among the front runners, Hindustan Unilever,
Cipla and Sun Pharma gained 1-4%, while Hindalco Inds, Tata Steel, Wipro,
SBI and Tata Motors lost 4-5%. Among mid caps, Pipavavship, A2Z Maint &
Engg, Gujarat Pipavav, Jain Irrigation and GTL gained 3-11%, while AIA
Engineering, Puravankara Proj, IVRCL, Sujana Towers and Indiabulls Real
Estate lost 7-8%.
Markets Today
The trend deciding level for the day is 16,521/4,948 levels. If NIFTY trades
above this level during the first half-an-hour of trade then we may witness a
further rally up to 16,649 – 16,796/4,985 – 5,022 levels. However, if NIFTY
trades below 16,521/4,948 levels for the first half-an-hour of trade then it may
correct up to 16,374 – 16,246/4,910 – 4,874 level.
