Continue to get weaker
The advancement of the rainfall weakened further as the cumulative rainfall for the season till Aug 03, 2011 stood 6.4% below normal as against 3.8% below Normal in the preceding week.
While, number of divisions with deficient/ scanty rainfall increased to 10 from 7 in the preceding week, the divisions with Excess/ Normaldecreased to 26 from 29 in the preceding week.
The total rainfall till date is about 50.6% of the normal (see table VI) rainfall for the full season compared with 54.5% for the corresponding period last year.
…with further weakness in rain dependent areas
For the week ended Aug 03, 2011, cumulative rainfall in rain dependent areas further declined to 3.4% below normal from 0.3% below normal in preceding week. While rainfall in key agri states like Gujarat and maharashtra continues to remain weak, regions in the easter and northern part like Himachal Pradesh, J&K, orisa and jharkhand also reported further decline in rainfall.
Reservoir levels at 44% of their FRL’s
The reservoir levels stand at 44% of their full reservoir level (FRL) as against 31% Long Period Average (LPA).
Forecast rainfall for parts of eastern and north eastern regions
As the advancement of the monsoon continues, parts of eastern and north eastern regions in India are likely to receive a good amount of rainfall with rest of India expected to receive lesser rainfall.
Overall acreage stable; Pulses and coarse cereals reported substantial decline in acreage
Though acreage under major crops remained broadly stable at ~74.3mn hectares, crops like Pulses and Coarse cereals repred decline of 15.4% and 9% decline in acreage.
