Steady progress
The Southwest monsoon continued to progress at a steady pace during the week ended June 29, 2011 as weighted average rainfall during the week stood at 10.7% above normal, same as that in the preceding week. The number of divisions with Excess/ Norman rainfall continued to stand at 26 (out of 36) for the week ended June 29, 2011.
The total rainfall till date is about 20% of the normal (see table V) rainfall for the full season compared with 15.5% for the corresponding period last year.
Rain dependent areas continue to receive good rainfall
For the week ended 29 June, 2011, rainfall in rain dependent areas stood at ~21.3% above their LPA. However certain regions like Gujarat, Marathwada and Telangana received 40-85% below LPA rainfall.
Reservoir levels at 27% of their FRL’s
The reservoir levels stand at 27% of their full reservoir level (FRL) and at twice of their LPA.
Forecast rainfall for parts of central, eastern and north eastern regions
As the advancement of the monsoon continues, parts of central, eastern and north eastern regions in India are likely to receive a good amount of rainfall.
