Having met with management today at our 15th Annual India Investor
conference in New Delhi, these are some of our takeaways…
„Key take aways-
UTV (BBG ticker: UTV IN, Not Covered) is one of the listed integrated
entertainment company with presence in movies, broadcasting, television content
and gaming.
Movies : Likely to expand in regional space
It aims to release around 10-15 movie releases in Hindi next year and expand
presence in the regional (~5 releases) movie space. Also likely to focus on
reducing distribution cost for movie releases next year, enhancing margins in this
segment. UTV is ranked amongst the leading movie studios in India in terms of
releases and revenues from box office.
Gaming : Improved revenue visibility
Given scheduled release of its first game (EI Shaddai) in Japan & international
market, it expects strong pick up in revenues from gaming in FY12. It has already
tied up with Microsoft & Sony for release of its game and is currently negotiating
with vendors for merchandising. Expects to clock in revenues of ~30-40USDmn
from first release.
TV: robust ad growth, on track to achieve scale &
leadership
Management highlighted that demand for ad slots remain healthy and utilization
levels remain robust across key channels. TV & Broadcasting segment
contributes ~37% to revenues currently. With presence in movies (Hindi &
English) & youth entertainment channel, UTV is rated amongst top 5 networks in
the country. It expects this segment to grow at over 20% next yea
