Emkay Confluence on Metals and Mining was successfully held on 8th and 9th February. It had healthy and informative interactions between the corporates, industry experts, fund houses and investors over the two days.
Here are some key highlights of the meetings with participating corporates and experts
JSW Steel
After an elaborate presentation by JSW giving operational & financial details, discussions revolved around the “expansions” & “raw material sourcing”. There was excitement over the company’s growth strategy, synergies between various businesses and plans going forward. The management was confident and gave an encouraging outlook for the company going forward.
Hindustan Zinc
Significant investor interests were observed for Hindustan Zinc. Discussions were essentially on the next growth phase of the company and particularly the ramping up of the silver production. The management was confident of good growth trajectory with strong volume growth over next two years and having lowest quartile cost of production. The Company opined that “Currently silver business value is not being captured in the HZL share price”
Hindalco
As Hindalco has been in the process of various brownfield and greenfield project executions in India, queries were made by the investors on the time lines and details of those projects. Some queries on debt restructuring at Novelis were also made before the management, who provided a positive outlook for the company
Godawari Power and Ispat
Investors’ curiosity was observed on the pellet business of the company, which started production and stabilized satisfactorily. The management reiterated “iron mining and pellet business to be the future growth drivers for the company”
Sarda Energy and Minerals
Good investor interests were seen to meet the management of Sarda Energy and Minerals which has been the largest ferro alloys exporter and has access to good quality mining assets. The management focused on the various expansion projects and mining business
Industry experts
Besides Corporates and Investors; there were leading industry experts to give a brief overview of the global mining-metal space and aspects like regulatory frameworks, sustainable growth, mergers and acquisitions.

n Essel Mining on “Indian Mining –Metal Industry”
n Industry expert with a rich experience in the “global mergers, acquisitions and growth strategies for mining & metal companies”
n FIMI on “Sustainable Mining Initiative”.
The participation was large and interactive for each of the expert sessions. The feedback has been very positive with comments like “enriching”, “excellent’ “useful global perspective” received.
