Dealer’s Diary
The market opened positive with a gap of around 100 points to Monday’s
close, but these early gains were fizzled out as the key benchmark indices
slipped into the red in early morning trade. The market regained the positive
zone and moved in a narrow range for a while but soon hit the five-month low
mark in mid-morning trade. Renewed selling pressures dragged the market to
further losses in mid-afternoon trade. The market trimmed losses in afternoon
trade but there was no let up as the key benchmark indices slumped to sevenmonth
lows in late afternoon trade. The Sensex ended the day down by 1.5%,
while the Nifty closed lower by 1.6%. The mid-cap and small-cap indices
registered losses of 2.4% and 3.2%, respectively. Among the front liners, Bajaj
Auto, Tata Power, Cipla, Hindalco Industries and Infosys gained 0–2%, while
Mahindra & Mahindra, ONGC, Jaiprakash Associates, RCOM and Hero Honda
lost between 4–6%. Among mid caps, Nava Bharat Vent, Fortis Health, Prestige
Estates, Mahindra Lifespace and IPCA Lab gained 3–6%, while DEN Network,
IRB Infra, Punj Lloyd, Sterlite Tech and BEML lost 11–20%.
Markets Today
The trend deciding level for the day is 17,886/5,349 levels. If NIFTY trades
above this level during the first half-an-hour of trade then we may witness a
further rally up to 18,031–18,286/5,395-5,478 levels. However, if NIFTY
trades below 17,886/5,349 levels for the first half-an-hour of trade then it may
correct up to 17,631–17,487/5,267-5,220 levels
