BSNL, Uninor continue to dominate…
The telecom industry added 12.4 million subscribers in September 2010,
lower than 13.5 million net additions in August 2010. The dip was due to
lower net adds for both Vodafone and Idea Cellular. Vodafone added 1.8
million subscribers as against 2.3 million last month while Idea Cellular
added 1.5 million against 2.0 million. Both B and C circles witnessed
higher share in net adds while that for A circles has declined. BSNL and
Uninor’s performance has been outstanding with both companies
adding 2.3 and 2.2 million subscribers, respectively, in this month. Share
in net adds for both companies stood at 18.8% and 17.5%, respectively.
􀂃 BSNL, Uninor continue impressive show
Both BSNL and Uninor have had an impressive run for the past two
months with over 2 million subscriber additions each month. Of the
total subscriber base of 11.3 million, Uninor has added 4.4 million in
the last two months. Also, BSNL’s net adds have revived with 2.3
million subscriber additions in both August and September. Share in
net adds for both companies stood at over 17%.
􀂃 Vodafone, Idea – Losing ground to Uninor
Vodafone added 1.8 million subscribers, its lowest in the past
several months. The company lost out on net adds in Gujarat, Tamil
Nadu and UP (E). Net adds for Idea also slipped to 1.5 million from
2.0 million in the last month, due to dismal performance in Gujarat,
AP, MP and UP (W). Uninor’s net adds have increased considerably
in most of these circles, indicating its growing popularity.
􀂃 Others
Airtel maintained its net adds at 2 million subscribers while Aircel
added 1.6 million subscribers. Most of the new entrants, except
Uninor, have witnessed a decline in net adds during this month.
